Harry and Meghan will formally separate from William and Kate following the official announcement of a new royal household.
The division has been rumoured for months and comes amid speculation of tensions between the brothers and their wives.
This morning it was confirmed that the Queen has agreed to let the Duke and Duchess of Sussex base their new household at Buckingham Palace.
It will be established in the spring, around the same time the pair complete their move out of Kensington Palace and onto the Windsor Estate.
Currently, Harry and Meghan share both home and staff with William and Kate in west London. But over the last six months, the couples have led increasingly separate lives.
Much of that is entirely natural as William takes on more royal responsibilities as the heir to the throne. It is reminiscent of the way Prince Andrew – once second in line – was increasingly side-lined after Prince Charles started his family.
However, William and Harry have always been seen as a unique double act and the loosening of the official ties will be viewed by many with sadness. A source said the move was not down to a rift and instead both brothers are on ‘different trajectories’.
